The castle, with Riomaggiore as a frame, stands in a suggestive point in the upper part of the village.

Overlooking the sea, it offers wonderful views.

The fort with a quadrangular plan with the longer sides slightly converging towards the sea, has a wall formed by two large and squat circular towers.

Built in 1260 by the Marquises Turcotti, lords of Ripalta, it was completed by the Genoese in the 15th-16th century after the dominion of Niccolò Fieschi.
